London Metropolitan Network Limited is a company limited by guarantee and jointly owned by its members currently comprising 80 Higher and Further Education Institutions in Greater London. It has a projected turnover in 2005-06 of £2.5m.

The company owns and runs a broadband metropolitan area network (MAN) connecting member institutions to JANET (the UK's academic network) and thence to the Internet at speeds up to 1Gbps.

LMN is a mature network which has been providing connectivity in London for many years and we aim to expand our community to include other related institutions in Greater London Area.

But LMN is much more than a physical network: it is also a nexus of knowledge and collaboration. The Board and the members run the company as a non-profit organisation for the benefit of the million staff and students who work and study in the London region.

We see the network as a vehicle for the provision of value-added services. As a major goal, we intend to enter into partnerships with commercial organisations to develop a portfolio of facilities which will be made available to our members at attractive prices. This will at the same time provide LMN with an income stream the proceeds of which will help to enhance our network infrastructure.
