Funding arrangements for HEIs resilience
You will probably be aware that LMN has now procured and installed the new network, LMN3.
The continued availability of network connectivity is increasingly seen, by academic institutions, as essential and this procurement offers the opportunity to install an additional link to your institution to provide resilience. We are please to announce that, using a grant from HEFCE, LMN is able to meet the cost of installing a resilient link to each HEI and the LMN Board has agreed to fund 50% of the recurrent annual costs over a five year period starting 1st August 2007.
It is recognised that installing a resilient link will require additional equipment to receive the connection and the LMN Board has also agreed to deploy up to £15,000 (plus VAT) per institution to assist you with any router, firewall or interface capital costs that are needed to support this additional circuit. Please email me at p.white@lmn.net.uk with equipment details and the amount if you wish to make a claim against this fund. LMN will need copies of your invoices in support of the claim. If you have already committed to a resilient link and ordered equipment in advance of the link’s delivery, LMN will still pay for recent backdated claims.
If this information changes any previous response you have made to me about resilience to your institution or you have any other queries please email me at p.white@lmn.net.uk
New contact means new lower circuit costs
Both HEI and FECs can benefit from the new LMN3 contract with lower pricing for upgrades and resilience.
